Our Process

Step 1: Booking an Appointment

Scheduling an appointment with Virtual OT is straightforward. Service users or their representatives can book a session through our secure online portal. The process is as simple as:

  1. Accessing our online portal and selecting an available time slot.

  2. Receiving a secure link via email.

  3. Clicking the link at the scheduled time to join the virtual session.

No special technical skills are required—just a device with a camera, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.

Step 2: Types of Virtual Assessments

Single-Person Virtual Assessment

For cases where direct observation and discussion are sufficient, a Virtual OT occupational therapist conducts a single-person virtual assessment. The OT observes the service user’s environment, discusses concerns, and provides recommendations in real-time. This is ideal for cases such as:

  • Assessing minor home modifications.

  • Providing advice on daily living activities.

  • Reviewing equipment needs remotely.

Combined Assessments – Our Unique Approach

For more comprehensive assessments, we employ a combined assessment model, leveraging the support of another care professional. This ensures that all physical aspects of the assessment can be accurately conducted under the OT’s expert direction

.

Scenario: Carer-Assisted Assessment

Emma is a full-time carer for her elderly father, who has mobility issues. She joins the virtual session with a Virtual OT occupational therapist while using her smartphone. Under the OT’s guidance, Emma performs physical activities with her father, such as testing mobility aids, assessing transfers, and demonstrating daily tasks. Because Emma knows her father’s routine and needs, she provides valuable insights that enhance the assessment. The OT can then tailor recommendations to his specific situation.

Scenario: Paramedic-Assisted Assessment

John, a paramedic, is called out to assist an elderly service user who has experienced a minor fall. After confirming there are no serious injuries, John joins a virtual session with a Virtual OT occupational therapist. Under the OT’s guidance, John assesses the service user’s mobility, pain levels, and overall safety at home. The OT gains a comprehensive understanding of the service user’s condition while John provides medical context and firsthand observations. Together, they determine the best course of action, such as recommending mobility aids, exercises, or a follow-up appointment, ensuring the service user remains safe and independent.

Step 3: Reporting and Recommendations

After the assessment, the OT compiles a detailed report outlining:

  • Findings from the session.

  • Recommended interventions or adaptations.

  • Next steps, including referrals if needed.

The report is shared securely with the service user or their designated representative, ensuring they have clear guidance moving forward.
